Cafe Zeb is located on UC Berkeley’s campus in the Law School’s Boalt Hall. O Cafe is a newly opened coffee shop in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village, where global tastes will meet local treats – featuring Brazilian coffees and chocolates as well as locally sourced milk, cheeses and other goods. Campus Grind – College of Menominee Nation, Keshena, WI

Campus Grind Cafe is run by an impressive collective effort of students and faculty of the College of Menominee Nation in , a Tribal College on the Menominee Indian Reservation in northeast Wisconsin. The coffee shop is an indigenous business created by two student organizations on the campus. The Campus Grind offers a complete line of espressos and specialty coffees brewed from 100% fair trade, organic and shade-grown coffee from Chiapas, Mexico. It is located in the foyer of the new campus library where students can gather and socialize together.

Free Speech Movement Café – Berkeley, CA (UC Campus)

The Free Speech Movement (FSM) Café is centrally located at the entrance to UC Berkeley’s Moffitt Library and offers indoor and terrace seating. The menu is a manifestation of the ideals inherent in the Free Speech Movement and its soups, salads and sandwiches are made with local, sustainable or organic ingredients whenever available. All coffee is Fair Trade and organic and all foods are house-made including organic breads and a great selection of pastries made with organic flour. The cafe is a great place to gather with friends or study and is also a venue for periodic educational events such as forums, panels, exhibits and other events aimed at generating critical discussion about contemporary social and political issues.

Caffé Strada has been a staple of the UC Berkeley campus for many years. Filled students studying, faculty members chatting or locals meeting up with friends, many customers enjoy their coffee and goodies under the gazebo or in the shaded patio. Caffé Strada is known for its “Strada Bianca” (which chocolate mocha) as well as delicious pastries that patrons enjoy in the comfortable atmosphere that allows you to watch people walk by as you drink coffee. On Sundays they have live classical/jazz type music that undoubtedly keeps Strada’s loyal following and visitors from the adjacent Bancroft Hotel (also a green business) happy every day!

Opened in 2010, Remedy Coffee has quickly become a neighborhood favorite in Oakland’s Temescal area. Not only does Remedy serve delicious coffee from Ritual Roasters, but the café features home-baked goodies and locally sourced ingredients and foods. The café’s space is very welcoming, well lit and offers a variety of seating options, free Wi-Fi, a great music selection, and local art on the wall. The Blue Warrior Cafe – Carnelian Bay, CA (Lake Tahoe)

The Blue Warrior Café and Environmental Center is located on a 2 acre site on Lake Tahoe with 700 feet of beach access and is operated by Alpengroup, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting Lake Tahoe’s natural resources. Opened in August, 2010, the café operates year-round and the facility provides free access to Lake Tahoe for non-motorized watercraft as well as a small sledding hill, picnic and interpretive areas, beach access and plowed access to parking. Alpengroup’s goal for the site is to enhance regional lake access and beach recreation opportunities and to incorporate wetland restoration, and improved water quality treatment opportunities, wildlife habitat, and scenic values. Considering the visitor industry is the primary source of economic activity for the North Lake Tahoe area, the Blue Warrior Café is sure to be an important recreational and educational resource for tourists and locals alike – so stop by whenever you are in the area! All proceeds from the sales at the Blue Warrior Cafe goes directly to the projects at Lake Tahoe.
